By the time you’re shopping for dorm decor, saying goodbye to your family and friends, and packing up the car to head to your school, college seems like a daunting, incomprehensible adventure. And while there’s some truth to that, having some key things figured out will lessen your stress levels and make the transition seem a little easier.
Wake Up Times
I’m sure everyone has experienced the common occurrence of simply “sleeping through alarms” or even forgetting to set them, but while that excuse may have worked on mom and dad, it really won’t fly in college. At least a month before school, establish a good sleep schedule and stick to it; sleep is important!
Save Your Money
In high school, a big chunk of spending money goes to fun things like eating out, shopping, and having fun experiences. In college, you are going to be expected to purchase the necessities for yourself, which means no more mom and dad paying for things like your shampoo, Starbucks trips, or socks. Those costs can really add up, so make sure you save as much money as possible!
Time Management
In college, there will be no professors constantly reminding you to start assignments or turn in homework. Additionally, college opens up a whole new world of exciting opportunities to get involved and keep yourself busy. Getting a head start and staying on top of your schoolwork will only prove to help you when you’d prefer to do things like go out with your friends instead of cramming that five page paper assigned two weeks ago. Help yourself out!
College may feel overwhelming at first, but figuring out a few key habits—like managing your sleep, saving your money, and staying on top of your schedule—can make all the difference. You’ve got this—just don’t forget to set your alarm!
