Going into the annual Magnolia Bowl, Ole Miss was ranked 13th in the nation, while LSU headed to Oxford as the fourth-ranked team in college football.
The game went back and forth throughout all four quarters.
But what ultimately made the difference was the amount of yards Ole Miss held LSU to. The LSU offense only had a total of 254 yards which is significantly less than what their powerful offense is used to scoring.
Ole Miss was able to convert on a 9 play, 69-yard drive to go into halftime with a 17-7 lead, giving them a boost of momentum to open the second half.
In the fourth quarter, LSU was still fighting and rushed for a touchdown with five minutes on the clock. This would cut the Ole Miss lead down to 24-19, after a field two-point conversion from the Tigers.
Ole Miss was able to maintain the ball for the rest of the game, running the clock down to zero with an 11 play drive. Ole Miss was victorious over LSU with a final score of 24-19.
“I think Ole Miss is a great team this year,” says junior Cayden Brassell.
“Both are really good teams and that game was fun to watch,” says junior Evan Porter.
With the newly updated AP poll, Ole Miss moved up nine spots in the ranking and now sits at number 4, while LSU dropped to number 13
