Recently, many international students around the United States have had their legal status revoked, and it seems that Penn State has not been spared. According to a letter from Sabine Klahr, Interim Vice Provost of Penn State Global, several Penn State students have had their Visas/ legal statuses revoked.
The Trump Administration has taken an extreme stance on immigration, and as a result, many university students from outside the US are being detained and deported. A good amount of these students are having their legal statuses revoked due to protesting on their college campuses, or in the case of a Tufts University student, they were detained for writing an Op-Ed in their college’s newspaper.
This crisis has not spared Penn State, as several Penn State students have had their legal statuses revoked. “People are worried, rightfully so, and are trying to figure out how to deal with this situation.” An anonymous Penn State exchange student said in regard to the situation. With ICE seemingly gaining authority, many Penn State students are worried about their futures.
It remains to be seen how this deportation situation will end. With a Senior White House Advisor signaling the suspension of Habeas Corpus, it seems the federal government is doubling down on their immigration ideals.
