Lane Kiffin, the ironman of Ole Miss football, has his team and playoff hopes up in flames as his future is in question in Oxford.
Kiffin, the head coach of the Rebels for the past five seasons, has rumors surrounding his name following potential job offers from the powerhouses of LSU and Florida.
Kiffin is scheduled to make an announcement regarding where he will be coaching next season this Saturday, following the Egg Bowl: the annual game between the Rebels and Mississippi State.
Kiffin and his family have been seen in both Gainesville and Baton Rouge this past week, which has only stirred up more conversations.
It has been reported that LSU supposedly offered Kiffin a 7-year, $98 million deal if he were to join the Tigers, and offered at least $13 million a year plus an additional $25 million in NIL money per year from Florida. Currently, Kiffin’s yearly salary at Ole Miss is $9 million.
Some say the move won’t be about money, and others say that it is what the decision will solely be based on.
Ole Miss fans are worried. Kiffin has brought Ole Miss back into conversations since their 2023 Peach Bowl win over Penn State. Ole Miss was one of those “easy” wins in the SEC, but now they are sitting at 10-1 on the season, with a loss at Georgia, and are currently sitting as the sixth seed in the College Football Playoff.
Rylie Michael, a Lower Dauphin junior, says she “thinks he will stay at Ole Miss, but, if he were to go anywhere, it would be Florida”.
Cayden Brassell, also a Lower Dauphin junior, says “he would be crazy not to take the LSU deal.”
If Kiffin announces his departure, he would leave after the College Football Playoff, but that may leave a big hole in the team’s performance moving forward. However, if Kiffin stays put, Ole Miss just may be National Championship contenders.
