With summer just around the corner and warmer weather approaching, many Lower Dauphin students are choosing to wear flip flops, specifically Rainbow Sandals.
Senior Emily Miller says, “I love my Rainbows–they are so comfy.”
These leather flip flops are well loved and have a deep history. They were originally created in 1974 by Jay “Sparky” Longly. He began making the sandals in his Laguna Beach garage and he continually kept crafting until he found a design that looked good, felt great, and didn’t wear out.
Each pair is hand-made and uses a specially formulated glue to keep the layers together straps in place.
What makes Rainbows stand out from other flip flop brands is their focus on craftsmanship and longevity. Each pair is made with a multi-layered sole and a leather or rubber top that molds to the wearer’s feet over time.
Sophomore Charlotte McClintock says, “I don’t have a pair but they seem really cute and I would like to get some.”
The personalized fit is one of the main reasons why customers remain loyal to the brand. While some cheaper sandals may wear out quickly, Rainbow flip flops are designed to last years, making them a long term investment.
Rainbows can be very pricey ranging from $70-80 depending on the style and color. Despite their higher price point compared to typical flip flops, many customers that believe in the comfort and durability justify the cost. However, some users note that there is a “break in” period before the shoes become fully comfortable
Rainbow Sandals are a comfy, durable, stylish option of footwear for the warmer weather ahead.
