The Met Gala is one of the most awaited fashion events of the year. Since its inception in 1948, the carpet has been graced with beautiful outfits every time along with some rather out-there ensembles. Either way, the event raises exorbitant amounts of money every year for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art – this year a hefty 31 million dollars.
This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” gave a lot of freedom to the respective stars as far as what to wear. Some of the best dressed at this prestigious event included A$AP Rocky, Pharell Williams, Colman Domingo, and Lewis Hamilton – all of which also happened to be co-chairs.
Also included in this list were stars like Anne Hathaway decked out in Carolina Herrera (which paid homage to André Leon Tally), Cynthia Erivo in a shimmery jacket and matching ball skirt from Givenchy, and Diana Ross wearing a Ugo Mozie design (one that included at 18-foot-long train!). Other amazing outfits have to include Zendaya in her white Louis Vuitton suit, Bad Bunny in what seems to be an oversized Prada suit, and Dua Lipa and Callum Turner in Chanel.
Not all celebrities with an invitation attended the event, however. Talor Swift and Travis Kelce couldn’t find time in their busy schedules to attend the event and the same could be said for Jennifer Lopez as she continues filming her new movie, “Office Romance.”
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds also snubbed the event with no statement as to why they could not attend. There are many speculations as to why, but until one of the stars speaks out, we cannot know the real reason.
Other stars like Timothee Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, and Naomi Campbell also turned down their invitations for their respective reasons. Chalamet and Jenner were then seen at the Knicks game that night, while Campbell simply made a nonspecific post on social media in regards to her absence.
Autumn Parker, grade 10, said,“I liked Jenna Ortega’s outfit because it was very different and it looked like it was made out of metal plates which was pretty cool.”
Moxin Perry, grade 10, said, “ I think Rihanna looked like a pregnant woman from the Netflix series Wednesday. I think that it was a bold statement and personally I would never wear anything remotely close to that.”
