The 2025 NFL draft kicked off last night, Thursday April 24th, with 32 athletes hearing their name as first round draft picks.
With the first pick og the draft, the Tennessee Titans took Cameron Ward, a quarterback out of the Univtersity of Miami.
Ward was first in his position ranking and eighth overall ranking. Ward is known for being extremely patient with the ball and often gets compared to future hall-of-famer Patrick Mahomes.
With the second pick came a big surprise for Clevland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars fans. The browns traded their second-overall pick, 104th pick and 200th pick in return for the 5th overall pick and a 2026 first round selection as well.
With the second pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Travis Hunter, a wide receiver and cornerback out of the University of Colorado. Hunter was the Heisman trophy winner this past year, and it is no surprise that he went so early. He’s truly a two-for-one package deal.
With the third pick, the New York Giants selected Abdul Carter, an edge out of Penn State.
Carter was always in the conversation of potentially being the first pick of this draft, and he was ranked as the top player heading into the draft. His explosivness and capability to get to a quarterback on any occasion will help him roar tremendously in the NFL.
High sought-out draft pick, Tyler Warren out of Penn State, was picked by the Indianapolis Colts as the 14th overall pick. Warren can do it all on the offensive side of the ball. Warren was ranked as the top tight end in the draft, and 6th overall in this year’s draft class.
One of the biggest surprises of the night was Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders going undrafted in the first round. Sanders is the second-ranked quarterback in the draft class and sent shockwaves throughout college football fans.
Rylie Micheal, a sophomore at Lower Dauphin said, “I was shocked Shedeur didn’t go in the first round at all. I thought he was going to go really early.”
Sadie Borrelli, another sophomore at Lower Dauphin added, “I bet he will go really early on tonight.”
The NFL draft continues tonight at 7 pm with the second and third rounds.
