Lower Dauphin High School welcomes new teacher to the English Language department

Jasmine P.

Mrs. Brandy Kanode is a new English Language Development teacher here at Lower Dauphin, located in an office space in the library near the Help Nest. She recently started on January 21st, and transferred from the West Shore School District which she worked in for 24 and a half years. Kanode studied at HACC for 2 years, before transferring to Millersville University for her bachelors degree, and then went to Penn State Harrisburg for her masters degree.

Kanode’s first reaffirming experience guiding her to become a teacher was with her student teacher in her twelfth grade French class, which really inspired her to become an educator. She started out as a French teacher, and she can currently speak three languages: English, Spanish, and French.

Kanode also really enjoys working with high school students, as she explains that they “are typically independent” and can “work independently on activities” which she appreciates, as well as their humor and “their perspective on life in general”.

Kanode has very much enjoyed teaching so far at LD, and states how “all the staff and the students are very nice”. She currently works with English learners, students who come from different backgrounds and countries and are still working on their English language skills.
