Although Depp and Heard were only married for a few months, they were in a relationship with each other for over a decade. Now, Depp and Heard are in trial fighting a defamation case. NBC news states “The defamation case brought by actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard is ongoing and will likely take weeks to conclude”. 

Although the relationship ended in 2016, they are still battling in court. In 2018 Heard described surviving domestic abuse in the Washington post. Although Depp was not mentioned by name, he is suing for defamation and denies ever being violent towards Heard. Depp is suing for $50 million in damages saying she was physically violent towards him as well.. In return, Heard is countersuing for $100 million saying she was only ever violent with Depp in self-defense or defense of her younger sister.

This case has led to a frenzy on social media as people are taking sides, and getting invested in the trial. Clips of the trial, soundbites, and evidence are being released. As of now, the trial is expected to take weeks, and is currently being held in Fairfax County, Virginia.
