Analyzing the top five fruits of all-time

Honorable Mention: Coconut

While coconut on its own is by no means a top ten fruit, the overall versatility puts it nearly into the top five. Mixed into cookies, yogurt, smoothies or with other fruits, coconut is so subtle that it allows for a hint of sweetness while simultaneously letting the primary flavor’s taste to be apparent. Though coconut may not be great flying solo, its phenomenal teamwork allows for it to be on the bubble of an elite fruit.

5. Pineapple

The exact opposite of the former, pineapple is a superstar— the Michael Jordan rather than the Scottie Pippen. Its vigorous flavor is fantastic and it is an extremely quenching fruit to eat in the summer months. The elite talent of pineapple is why it is called PiñaColada and not ColadaPiña and thus proves its superiority on other, less satisfyingly-flavorful fruits.

4. Watermelon

More of a silent assassin, watermelon is quietly one of the fruit world’s most exciting skill sets,  much like Andres Iniesta for FC Barcelona. Easily the best fruit to enjoy with a picnic or barbeque, watermelon plays a big role in a lot of meals as the perfect sidekick to a cheeseburger or hot dog. No fruit can compete with the big guns of the meat world, but watermelon is at least an intriguing staple that complements the aforementioned meals with grace, something few other fruits have accomplished.

3. Banana

Sitting at number three on a list of the best fruits of all-time may seem astronomically high for the banana, but any athlete can testify to its greatness. Bananas are easily the best teammates in the locker room, the “glue guys” that hold a team together. Packed with potassium and vitamins, they will not only nourish the body but also provide energy without feeling too full or nauseous before a game or match. The winner of the best sportsmanship award, the banana easily clears almost every other fruit simply for its compatibility.

2. Strawberry

Very similar to the pineapple, strawberries are a very up-in-the-face, passionately-flavored fruit. They talk trash like Draymond Green but are also as humble, yet amazing, as the likes of Aaron Judge or Josh Allen. Though other fruits on this list may be better all-around players, not much can compete with the playmaking abilities of strawberries. An overall comparison of the fruit, despite taking characteristics from many athletes (as mentioned above), has to be Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback occasionally makes poor decisions with the football and strawberries will too, with their potent flavor overtaking the taste of other fruits in a smoothie or milkshake. However, that star power, that both contain, easily puts the two near the top of their respective lists.

1. Blueberry

Nowhere near the traditional pick, the number one fruit of all-time is easily the blueberry. The undersized fruit is easily the most versatile in the game as a great addition to smoothies, cereal, pie, cheesecake, ice cream, yogurt, oatmeal or even on its own. The Swiss Army knife fruit is much like lacrosse’s Zach Currier, a do-it-all athlete that is extremely reliable. Being able to count on the blueberry, no matter the task, makes it a facile elevation to the top spot on this list.
