Facts About Depression

Depression is very common, and there are many different types of depression-like bipolar depression, seasonal depression, etc. All types of depression are serious, and people may have different needs according to the person and the severity of their depression.

Some of the common symptoms of depression are feelings of sadness, loneliness, emptiness, hopelessness, irritability, and loss of pleasure in doing activities that used to bring joy. Sometimes depression can feel up and down, for example, one minute someone may be happy and like everything is okay, and the next minute they feel a rush of sadness or emptiness.

Some treatments for depression are anti-depressants, doing exercise, and therapy. All treatments don’t work for everyone, however, it’s important to find something to lift moods and bring back the joy that has been lost. “Antidepressant medications increase the activity of chemicals called neurotransmitters in the brain.” according to the Center for Addiction and Mental Health. Doing exercise produces endorphin chemicals which are the same chemicals that are made when people do something they enjoy. Therapy is good for people who feel they have no one to talk to about their feelings, emotions, and mental health. Therapy, exercise, and antidepressants will only help if people let them help, so if people try and really want to get better, the treatments will work.
