5 Tips to Help You Stay Energized

  • Start your days with protein.

It’s always a good idea to eat a hot breakfast, like eggs. Eggs provide a good source of protein and can be made in a variety of ways such as dippy eggs, scrambled eggs, etc. An example of a balanced breakfast could include: eggs, toast with butter or a healthier jelly, fruit, and water or milk. It can be hard to have time to eat breakfast in the mornings, but it’s very important to maintain energy throughout the day.

  • Stay hydrated.

Water is a vital nutrient, and if people don’t drink enough water, they will become dehydrated, which results in fatigue. If someone struggles with drinking enough water, something they could try is: as soon as they wake up in the morning, drink a glass of water. Drinking one glass of water in the morning starts the day off on a good note. Another tip is to stay hydrated: take a reusable water bottle to school or work; if there is water constantly there, people will be more inclined to drink more.

  • Limit caffeine.

As crazy as it may sound, caffeine may actually make people more tired rather than making them more energized. The reason for this is because having too much caffeine can affect sleep at night, and may make people restless when it’s time to go to sleep. Instead of going straight to coffee or other energy drinks, try water, tea, smoothies, or decaf green tea. Caffeinated drinks can cause an over build-up of adenosine, which is “a naturally occurring substance that relaxes and dilates blood vessels” according to drugs.com.

  • Exercise outside.

Staying active is a good way to stay energized in general. However, doing exercises like walking a dog, hiking, biking, swimming, etc. are good exercises to do outside, and they are energizing. Exercising can increase moods, and make people feel better about their mental and physical health. Friends and family members could be good accomplices for exercising outside if people don’t want to exercise alone.

  • Get plenty of rest.

It may be obvious that getting enough rest is an important factor in staying energized throughout the day, but sometimes people overlook getting good, restful sleep at night. Staying up late, playing video games or scrolling through social media will not help in staying energized all throughout the day. Planning ahead to get homework out of the way early gives enough time to play games and do other fun activities which will help getting to sleep at a decent time. Getting enough rest will also help limit caffeine intake and may give extra time in the mornings to get a good breakfast before going to school or work.
