This week is being reported by the media that Russia has invaded the Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, Putin started firing large scale missiles into the Ukraine. This is part of the ongoing conflict between them since 2014. In 2021 and 2022, Russia has been building a military presence along the Ukraine border, causing tensions between the two. This military presence included tanks, heavy equipment, and artillery. Russia has sent over 150,000 troops to utilize this military equipment. Anticipating this was going to happen, millions of concerned Ukrainian citizens and their families have fled the country fearing for their lives and their loved ones. The US and Biden administration have been warning that they will impose sanctions on Putin and Russia. As of today, it appears that is going to happen. Further, there have been threats of nuclear action. But thankfully that has not happened. All of this said, there are many speculations as to why this conflict is occurring. Some say it is simply Putin’s desire to have control and power over Ukraine. Others say the Ukraine is the center of corruption for the political establishment and that Putin is using the Russian military to remove that corruption, by force if necessary. Only time will tell, but it appears to be in the near future.
