Thanksgiving

When most people think of Thanksgiving, gathering around a large table and eating turkey with family often comes to mind. Although, after surveying students around the highschool, it was found that that is not always the case. Students shared some unique traditions their families have. One girl said that her family travels to a tropical location each year, this year being Anna Maria Island in Florida. Upon arrival, they go to the grocery store and buy tropical foods for their “Thanksgiving” meal. Another student mentioned that their family always uses their grandmother’s old china dishware. Playing games, such as checkers and crossword puzzles, was another popular response. Many students also mentioned travelling to visit family throughout Pennsylvania and other bordering states. Several people also commented that their family watches the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade together in the morning. Setting up Christmas decorations after the busy day is another popular tradition. Thanksgiving is celebrated many different ways, even just within our school.
