Mrs. Amanda Maggs is a new English teacher here at Lower Dauphin teaching in room 211. She graduated from LD and her mom is the high school librarian, Mrs. Patt, so coming back to her roots was an easy decision. She also stated that when she was a student, she had some great English teachers that inspired her to go into teaching. Her mom being the high school librarian and growing up around books also influenced her career path. After graduating high school, she attended Lock Haven University and graduated in 2012.  Before returning to her old stomping grounds, she taught 10th grade AP classes at a school in Florida, 45 minutes outside of Orlando, for nine years. Two of her all-time favorite units to teach are British literature and Edgar Allen Poe. When asked about how the students and staff welcomed her, she responded, “ The students are awesome, they are fun to work with and open to trying new things. The staff has been very helpful and accepting.”  Maggs described her take on teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic as “different- but not bad and a new challenge to overcome.” Compared to other schools, she expressed that LD is a closer environment, is very welcoming, and feels like a family.
