Because I am a massive nerd, there are few things more exciting to me than a new book that I know almost nothing about. This year promises to come with many exciting new reads, and so, in celebration of that massive nerdiness, here are my most anticipated books for 2021.

Science Fiction—Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell

After reading the summary of this book, I added it to my to-be-read list in an instant. Enemies forced into a reluctant alliship? Fake relationship that becomes not-so-fake? Murder Mystery? And, to top it all off, it’s in space? Sign. Me. Up. Winter’s Orbit comes out February 2nd.

ContemporaryHoney Girl by Morgan Rogers

This debut novel promises to be packed full of both touching moments and wacky antics. It tackles issues like the struggling job market, pressure from parents, and, of course, figuring out what to do after you decide to run away with your Las-Vegas-wife. Honey Girl comes out February 23rd.

Nonfiction—You Will Get Through This Night by Daniel Howell

I have been looking forward to this book since it was announced back in September. Daniel Howell, an online content creator who is outspoken about his experiences with depression, has been a role model for me for years. The book is a cross between mental health advice and a memoir. You Will Get Through This Night comes out May 18th.

Romance—One Last Stop by Casey McQuistion

This book is possibly the one I’m the most excited for. McQuiston’s first book, Red, White, & Royal Blue, is one of my favorite books of all time and the one that finally made me like the romance genre. One Last Stop features a detective trying to leave her past behind her and a girl displaced in time trying to get back where she belongs. One Last Stop comes out June 1st

Fantasy—She Who Became the Sun by Shelly Parker-Chan

When you tell me a book is essentially a combination of my favorite Disney princess, Mulan, and one of my favorite books, The Song of Achilles, you know I’m going to read it, no questions asked. A fantasy novel set in 1345 China is everything I never knew I needed in a book. She Who Became the Sun comes out July 20th.

Poetry—The Hill We Climb by Amanda Gorman

This collection is the debut of Amada Gorman, whose name you may recognize as she recited her poem of the same title at Joe Biden’s inauguration. Her being a beautiful speaker and writer, I can’t wait to read her other new works. The Hill We Climb comes out September 21st.
