Mini-THON is an organization dedicated to raising awareness and donations for childhood cancer. It was created at Penn State Hospital for families that struggle to make ends meet while their child is sick. THON happens once a year and usually is from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Throughout Lower Dauphin High School, many clubs join together for fundraisers for the foundation. The THON club itself is made up of many different groups, each having their own way of raising money. Hospitality donates food for games and THON. Outreach makes people outside of the school aware of Mini-THON’s purpose and how they can help. And there’s so many more groups to be a part of to get the message out.
Fundraisers are the most important part of the entire process. The next big fundraiser is the Jingle Jam, taking place on December 17 at the Conewago Elementary school. The Jingle Jam is a 5k that participants can walk or run. You can sign up through the link located on the Lower Dauphin website or walk-ins will be accepted but there will be limited space. A raffle will also be taking place at the 5k. The baskets are different themed, each coming from a different group in the Mini-Thon committee.
Mr. Mini-Thon is a group of senior boys that fundraise for FTK. The boy that does the best job at fundraising will be crowned Mr. Mini-Thon at Thon. Check school announcements or their Instagram accounts for their upcoming fundraisers and how you can help. At least one person per year sets up a date for ice-skating at the Klick Lewis Arena in Hershey.
The best way to donate is by buying shirts when they appear. The shirts are designed by students at the high school and all money raised from them will go towards THON. The shirts are designed to go with the Mini-THON theme and will be the perfect shirt for THON day.
