The Story of Pickball

Pickleball, a sport that was created in 1965 with an interesting backstory. I started when three fathers were on vacation with their families, trying to figure out something to occupy their children. Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum were the creators of the new sport, Pickleball. They used the materials that they had with them, ping pong paddles, an old badminton court, and a perforated plastic ball, and created a new game. Ever since then, an estimated 4.8 million Americans play pickleball. Pickleball is a mashup between tennis, ping pong and badminton that can be played indoors or outdoors. Some of the advantages to pickleball is that it is easy to pick up, and a very cheap sport considering it does not require expensive gear. All you need is sneakers and a type of racket. There is little running, making this sport more popular to the older players. The sport got its name because of Joel Pritchards family dog whose name was Pickles. The game ball because Pickles ball after some time, therefore getting the name.
