The college football playoff bracket was released this past Saturday. Many teams that were expected to make the playoffs were left out, leaving some people upset.
The college football playoff is composed of twelve teams. Those schools are Indiana, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas Tech, Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas A and M, Oklahoma, Alabama, Miami, Tulane and James Madison.
By winning your conference, your team gets an at large bid into the playoffs. The top five conference champions make it in even if their team wasn’t ranked high during the season. This leads to some controversy throughout fan bases and teams.
BYU and Notre Dame were two teams who were projected to be in the playoffs but did not end up making it. Many people are wondering how fair the playoffs truly are. Whether it’s biased or just a flawed system many are urging the committee to find a better way to organize the playoffs.
Sophomore Jake Jayne says, “I like who is in the playoffs but there needs to be more teams in it so it’s more exciting to watch.”
Senior Hannah Richmond says, “ I think some of the teams that made it into the playoffs are questionable. I think they made the right choice when choosing between teams that played each other but an automatic bid from being a conference champion isn’t always fair.”
