The NCAA Division I field hockey tournament consists of sixteen elite teams. The first round of games were held on Friday, November 14th. Number three ranked Harvard won against New Hampshire. Miami of Ohio defeated number four ranked Virginia. Number two ranked Princeton beat Fairfield. Number one ranked North Carolina won against Saint Joseph’s. UConn beat Wake Forest. Yale fell to Northwestern. Duke beat Iowa. Syracuse defeated Liberty in shootouts.
The two games to watch on Friday were Liberty versus Syracuse and Miami of Ohio versus Virginia.
Syracuse beat Liberty in shootouts which happened after two sets of overtime periods. The two teams were very evenly matched and it was a great game to watch.
Lily Rost, a junior field hockey player says, “ This was a great game. It was so fast paced and fun to watch.”
Miami of Ohio was victorious over number four ranked Virginia. Miami of Ohio came into this game as a major underdog and did not disappoint. They defeated Virginia in a game with a 2-1 score.
The elite eight games took place on Sunday, November 16th.
