After months of anticipation, the trailer for Stranger Things 4 is finally out. It premiered today at 10:00 AM and is quickly gaining millions of views from eager fans across the globe. After viewing the trailer, it is evident that this season is going to be bigger — and stranger — than ever. Everything from the setting to the overall aesthetic looks completely different. In other words, there’s a lot to digest. Below is an analysis of the Stranger Things 4 trailer. Only a small portion of the trailer will be discussed in this article. The entire trailer can be viewed on YouTube.

New Locations

One of the key differences between season four and the first three seasons is the multitude of locations. There are three distinct locations that will split the characters up this season. Some characters will be in Lenora Hills, California and others will be in Kamchatka, Russia. However, the majority of the characters will remain in Hawkins, Indiana. The constant switch of locations will certainly be a drastic change.

Max’s Supernatural Occurrence

Perhaps one of the most absurd elements of the trailer, Max Mayfield is seen floating above the grave of her dead step-brother, Billy Hargrove. Max has never had superpowers or anything that would cause her to float. This most likely means she will acquire powers, become possessed, or have a spell cast on her. The possibilities are endless.

Eleven’s Fate

Unfortunately, things aren’t looking too good for Eleven this season. Not only is she being treated poorly at school, she is also being sent back to Hawkins Lab as shown by the clip of her being taken away in the back of a van. There were a few clips of her with a shaved head, which is identical to her appearance in season one. We know that El lost her powers at the end of season three, and in the season four trailer, she confirms that she still hasn’t gotten them back. However, she is going to need her powers in order to stop the crazy battle ahead of her and her friends. Hopefully, she’ll get them back and escape the lab!

The Eye of the Storm

Similar to Eleven, Hawkins isn’t looking great, either. In Max’s letter to Billy, she states that everything has been a total disaster since his passing. The trailer definitely proves that her point is correct. The Upside Down, an alternate dimension filled with all kinds of evil, is making a return in season four after its hiatus in the previous season. It basically confirms that bad things are destined to occur. It was even said in the trailer that the people of Hawkins are in the eye of the storm, which isn’t surprising to anybody who has watched the show. After all, Hawkins has been the source of the chaos since the very beginning.

The Grandfather Clock

The Creel House is a new location being introduced in season four. Clocks, specifically the grandfather clock within the Creel House, are supposed to be one of the largest aspects of the upcoming season. From the time production began, clocks have been referenced quite often, leading viewers to believe that they must be important to the plot. There is still no precise explanation for this concept, but many suspect that it will have to do with time travel. While this may not be the case, it’s a very reasonable theory.

All in all, Stranger Things 4 is definitely going to be a huge hit this summer. The first volume of the Netflix original series will debut on May 27th and the second volume will debut on July 1st.
