Early Quarantine Food Trends
April 5, 2022
The beginning of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 sparked an abundance of new trends for people to try while stuck at home. Food-related trends were especially popular due to their simplicity. Here are three unique and easy food trends that took social media by storm during quarantine.
Cloud Bread

Composed of only three ingredients, cloud bread is very simple to create. All you need is egg whites, sugar, and cornstarch. Some people like adding food coloring to give it a pop of color. This makes it resemble cotton candy when being ripped apart, especially if the color is pink or blue. Many of those who have tried “cloud bread” stated that it wasn’t very tasty, but the satisfaction of its texture made up for it. People seem to enjoy the fluffy texture of the bread, especially when it’s being pulled apart.

Whipped Coffee

This trend is exactly what it sounds like. Whipped coffee is described as a strong, frothy coffee drink that is super easy to make. This beverage consists of three components — milk, ice, and the foam on top. The foam topping is made out of coffee that has been whipped, which should be quite thick if done properly.

Pancake Cereal

Unfortunately, pancake cereal is not something you can purchase from your local grocery store — yet. To make your own pancake cereal, start by cooking as many miniature pancakes as you’d like. Once finished, put them into a bowl and pour milk over it, just like real cereal! You may also add syrup, butter, and other toppings if you’d like to. Although this trend takes a bit of time and effort, many say that it’s worth it!
