The NAM Pageant was truly a blessing in more ways than one. I for one, never saw myself as a pageant kind of girl, but after this experience I really feel like God is calling me to do more. It has been my prayer to shine for Jesus in a place that can focus too much on external beauty.

When Pageantry first came up, I was a bit skeptical because of the stigma that pageants have. But, after praying about it and taking the risk of participation I really fell in love with it all. Yes, on pageant weekend I may wear stage makeup and teased curlers and look like a hot mess backstage, but honestly, it isn’t much different than a theatre weekend!

In a theatre weekend (especially at JTF), there’s a lot of prepping, hair and makeup shenanigans, costume changes, and performances. In many ways, pageants are the same, only you aren’t playing the lead role of a character with a script, you are showing the world what it looks like to be you!

Over Pageant weekend, I not only Introduced myself in front of a panel of judges and an audience, Interview with another panel of judges, and model my evening gown, I also sang and performed a song of my choice, and gave a speech that I had written. I also attended rehearsals for the teen division finale number and created new friendships that will last for a long time.

My goals for pageantry have been to encourage other teen girls and help them see their God-given value and worth, to develop my communication skills and abilities as I speak in front of groups and in personal interviews, and lastly to use whatever platform I have to make a difference in the lives of the people around me.

Moving Forward, I have decided not to go to nationals for NAM, and have decided to do a more local pageant called the International United Miss pageant. This pageant will be Held at the Hotel Hershey in November, and I am super excited for this new experience.
