AHHHH! Summer is right around the corner!! What are things a girl can do this spring to spruce up and prepare for summer? Need some new tips and ideas?

Exercise! Exercise is SUPER DUPER important for your health especially if there’s a certain prom dress or bathing suit to squeeze into soon! Try doing something simple, something you can do at home without having to waddle through a gym or organise a car pool for. Larysa Didio has some ideas that will knock out some cardio without knocking out your paycheck.

  • Chair Dips:
    • Sit on the edge of a sturdy chair, with hands next to hips. Slide your bottom off the edge and bend elbows to 90 degrees. Be sure to keep your back close to the chair, then push back up. Do 10 to 12 repetitions.
  • Chair Squats
    • Stand in front of chair, feet hip-distance apart, toes forward. Lean chest slightly forward. Bend knees, tap (don’t sit!) bottom on chair, then stand up. Keep your weight in your heels and keep knees over toes. Do 10 to 12 reps.
  • Get-Fit Tip #1- Keep a food log.
    • I know, who has time to do even one more thing? But if you’re serious about losing some weight, writing down what you eat is one of the best ways to help you stay on track. Even better, do it with a friend and then swap them nightly.
  • Butterfly Abs
    • Lie on back and place soles of feet together; relax knees out to the side. Place hands behind head, with elbows out. Tightening abs, lift chest and shoulders up, then release back down. Do 10 to 12 reps.
  • Step-Ups
    • Place entire right foot on a stair or a sturdy platform, and step up with left leg following. Step down with left leg, reaching back about 12 inches; follow with right. Do 12 times, keeping chest lifted, then switch sides and repeat. As you get stronger, try this move with weights.

After cardio, shower and throw on a face mask! Try relaxing for 15-20 minutes. Stress can cause weight-gain so try and loosen up every now and again! Reader’s Digest has just the thing for a girl in need of a mask from home.

  • Banana facial: Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Another popular mask recipe calls for 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey (a natural acne remedy), and 1 medium banana.
  • Milk facial:Make a mask by mixing 1/4 cup powdered milk with enough water to form a thick paste. Thoroughly coat your face with the mixture, let dry completely, then rinse with warm water. Your face will feel fresh and rejuvenated.
  • Oatmeal facial:Combine 1/2 cup hot—not boiling—water and 1/3 cup oatmeal. After the water and oatmeal have settled for two or three minutes, mix in 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 small egg white. Apply a thin layer of the mask to your face, and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Then rinse with warm water. (Be sure to place a metal or plastic strainer in your sink to avoid clogging the drain with the granules.)

All done with cardio and squishy facials? How about a snack! One of the best ways to slim up and drop some pounds is healthy eating and eating MODERATELY. Eating everything in portions not in heaps or crumbs is a large factor in healthy living.

– Apple Nachos!

  • 1 apple, sliced
  • 1 smudge Peanut butter
  • 1 pinch Cinnamon
  • Oats for sprinkling (can also use special oats for gluten free)

Evenly coat each slice of apple with peanut butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and add some oats! This is a fun alternative to sugary snacks, also the peanut butter packs a protein punch while the cinnamon will pack a punch to your metabolism.

– Popcorn!  Pop some popcorn with as little butter as possible, sprinkle some salt, and enjoy!

– Chocolate covered peanuts: Okay, we promise not to trick you, but a handful of chocolate covered peanuts every day or so isn’t bad for you. Simply add a few melted chocolate chips to a bag of shelled and unsalted peanuts and mix. Cool down in fridge then enjoy!

– Trail mix!   Now there are many ways to make trail mix. The main equation for the perfect trail mix is this: dried fruit/berries  + nuts + a little bit of something sweet (chocolate). And tada! Trail mix has been born!

Hopefully these suggestions can help you get to where you want to be, remember to not over exercise or over/under eat and to be productive. Don’t use the facemask as an excuse not to work! Wink wink…
