Senior year is full of stress, and being the only class without laptops makes it even harder.

October 1st, 2015 all of the sophomores and freshmen were given brand new laptops. The school year just started, and new ways of teaching were thrown at us. However, as a junior not having a laptop was hard. All of my teachers were using Canvas, and trying to do things online. During my junior year I did not go home after school a lot, from games to practices and working I was always busy. I remember having an away game and having a paper due the next day for class, but I had to wait until I got home to work on it. The underclassmen were able to pull out their laptops and work on any online work or papers. There were points throughout last year that would have been easier if I had my own laptop.

Starting senior year without a laptop was not bad, until my English class tried to start out application essays and another teacher took the laptop cart. Teachers with mainly senior classes are supposed to have a laptop cart in their room, however anyone can still take the cart when they need it. Mr. Jason Keiner, a senior English teacher talks about how he is glad the seniors he has does not have laptops, because of the internet connection problems they could experience. He also talks about that his way of teachings can be done both on a computer, and on paper. With only one class in the building without laptops, many teachers are thinking about future teaching because all students next school year will have laptops. A lot of teachers if not all are using laptops daily in their classrooms, and it makes it hard for seniors who are mixed with juniors. Senior Andrea Shearers stated, “They would be nice to have, but I am glad I don’t have to worry about carrying them around.” The good thing about not having laptops is that one less thing we have to worry about on a day to day basis.

Not being able to access a teacher’s PowerPoint or note during class, or not being able to do online work is difficult. It is a problem seniors will face until graduation, but not having the responsibility of a laptop is one less thing we have to worry about.
